The spring season quickly approaches and when the world thaws, Tsukasa and his elite warriors will no doubt unleash devastation on the small science group. Thanks to numerous inventions and his preemptive moves, Senku isn’t without a plan of action! The battle for kingdoms begins in Dr. Stone: Stone Wars!

Senku is Back!

Though the wait wasn’t long for the second season of Dr. Sone: Stone Wars, returning to our beloved stone world felt natural in every way. There wasn’t a dire need for long-winded summaries or recaps, Stone Wars jumps right back into the looming battle between brawn and brains giving us fans what we want right away. The battles these two kingdoms have aren’t long like most shounen series and Dr. Stone continues trying to be different from others in its genre and succeeds in a plethora of ways.

New Technology and New Science

Even if you aren’t a fan of science, Dr. Stone: Stone Wars makes every new invention Senku creates—even if they are all based on current technology we use daily—feel interesting and important. Watching Chrome and other Dr. Stone alumni also rise up in different ways—such as Chrome inventing a means to escape a prison he gets trapped in—makes this second season feel different despite relying on very similar themes from the previous season.

Character Growth in the Stone World

Hands down the best part of Dr. Stone: Stone Wars is the amazing character development in this second season. Senku might seem like the same man we met last year but he clearly has begun to understand the need for friends and how his actions don’t just affect him. The same can be said of Tsukasa who has easily one of the most memorable final scenes—we almost teared up—showing he’s also understanding that friendship trumps strength/power. Every character from Kinrou to Gen has clearly grown up in a short time and we love that about this second season of Dr. Stone.

Only Eleven Episodes

Our biggest complaint with Stone Wars has to be the short episode count. Unlike the 24-episode count of the first season of Dr. Stone, Stone Wars is only 11-episodes in length! Yes, a lot is done in this short timeframe but we would have loved to see a few more episodes at least or maybe some OVA episodes. Nevertheless, a new season is coming quickly so we at least won’t have to wait too long for a season 3.

Quick Arc

Another minor issue for the second season of Dr. Stone is the fact that due to the short episode count, the arc itself is over in the blink of an eye. The major battle between the Science Kingdom and Tsukasa’s Kingdom is quickly handled before anything outrageous really occurs. This arc, in general, is extremely short and it's understandable why the season is only 11-episodes, but we would have loved just a bit longer of a battle or maybe some more tension to extend the longevity of this arc as a whole.

Despite the extremely short season, Dr. Stone: Stone Wars is a truly amazing continuation of a series we only fall deeper in love with. The mixture of adventure, science, and comedy makes Dr. Stone a real treat to watch and we loved the overall story presented to us. We do pray season 3 is a bit longer but what we do know of the manga version we could easily get a 24+ episode adaptation without much of an issue.
