Hold your horses, everyone! Mob Psycho 100 III dropped and it has been a ride. Most of you know of Mob Psycho 100 or have at least heard of it. An immersive story with one of the most original plots we’ve seen (that’s saying a lot because we watch everything), it’s an anime masterpiece and one people will probably watch and rewatch for years. If you’re new to anime we suggest watching it but if not, we’ll get you all caught up. Be warned newbies, there are spoilers for previous seasons ahead!

With that warning out of the way, let’s get down to business! The Mob Psycho 100 series tells us the story of Mob, an emotionally repressed, overpowered, honest-to-god psychic middle-school student who works part-time for another psychic (read: honest-to-god fraud) called Reigen. Mob is apparently so OP that he has to keep all of his emotions contained and remain as blank-faced and insipid as a mob character (though this personality trait seems to be a by-product rather than a choice) because when his emotions hit 100% he loses control and usually leaves vast amounts of damage, destruction of property, and casualties in his wake. Following all the shenanigans of the previous two seasons where Mob has his origin story (sort of) told, takes on an evil organisation steeped in esper-related crimes, and sprouts giant broccoli, we’re now at season 3! If you thought seasons 1 and 2 were great, you ain’t seen anything yet!

The last we saw of Mob and the gang was when the Giant (publicly considered Divine) Broccoli sprouted after his showdown with Claw. Since then, he’s been back at the Spirits and Such Consultation office under Reigen (the GOAT when it counts) and with new recruit Serizawa. Until now we’ve seen some truly poignant (and comical) moments in Mob’s life. Psychic power control issues aside. There was the younger brother suffering from an inferiority complex, the girl of his dreams who doesn’t know he exists, his exploitative mentor Reigen who’s exploitation he’s blind to (who somehow is still the GOAT), spirits (shoutout to Dimple) who won’t leave him alone, and school club activities some of which he wants to partake in without skill and some of which he wants no part of but happen to want him. While he seems to have dealt with the majority of these, the life of an esper is never peaceful for long. And now that season 3 has hit our screens, we can say that we called it!

    The Boys Are Back!

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen our beloved cast of oddballs, outcasts, and the occult. But worry not, because the boys are all back with a bang! From our favourite brosome of bodybuilders to our mildly nefarious spirit and (self-proclaimed) spirit master to our favourites espers; Teruki, Katsuya, and to the man of the hour, Mob himself!— the vibe is exactly the same! All the things that made Mob Psycho 100 great still hold true in the newest season— it’s poignant, heart-warming, hilarious, and objectively magnificent. The anime is a beautiful balance between real, relatable problems, like Mob’s existential crisis about his future, his struggle to be a *real* (read: normal) boy, and growing up; and the more difficult to relate to but nonetheless epic problems of getting a better handle on his abilities, exorcising spirits, and conspiracies on a citywide scale (we’ll stop here to keep it spoiler free!). So get ready for new shenanigans with a gold old dose of everything that’s made this anime great in the past! Mob Psycho 100 is back with all new episodes, but it somehow manages to stay nostalgic of itself. True to form, it promises and delivers a beautifully-crafted story, characters that consistently grow whom you can’t help but adore, and an arresting art style the likes of which we have yet to come across anywhere else. It’s a must-watch for sure!

Gritty and gorgeous! Right from Day 1, Mob Psycho 100 has been a visual masterpiece. From its rough line style (courtesy of its brilliant creator ONE) to its explosive colours, and its lively animation, this show is nothing short of a treat. Mob Psycho 100 has always set itself apart if not in the story, then in art. Weird and surreal, it’s artistic in an unconventional way where it doesn’t appeal to aesthetics in a classical sense. It overwhelms you and sucks you into a tsunami of vibrant hues and dynamic movement, and in the process, you can’t help but appreciate how beautifully chaotic, pretty yet gritty, this anime is. Season 3 does not disappoint. BONES (the studio responsible) has done both this series and ONE’s art justice once again, and while we at Honey’s Anime have always found Mob Psycho 100 beautiful, we can honestly say that the latest season really does knock it out of the park.

    Final Thoughts

Mob’s got 99 problems but we must say it’s a treat for us when he hits 100! And so far this has been a fantastic sequel to the previous seasons. Hilariously dry, beautifully drawn, with a breathtaking character-driven story sure to drag you up and down an emotional rollercoaster, Mob Psycho 100 III is simply wonderful. There’s really nothing else to say, except that we’re definitely going to stick with this one all the way through the Fall Season! The question is, will you? Are you a Mob Psycho fan?
