Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World First Impression - Redo of Healer x Sword Art Online!?
Harem and isekai are two genres that just scream perfection together. The whole idea of being transported to another world is meant to give viewers a feeling that you have been given a new life, a new beginning, and a new way to be yourself. That’s why we were intrigued by Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World. This isekai seemed like a literal power fantasy trip and we won’t deny it semi-reminded us of another power trip that turned some heads a little while ago, Redo of Healer. After the first handful of episodes, we have a lot to say about Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World and if you were looking for a mature isekai, you’re definitely going to want to keep reading our first impression of this rather peculiar anime.
Blood, Sex, Oppai, and Adventure
Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World doesn’t waste time throwing viewers into the sandals of young Michio Kaga—cause that’s literally what he wears. After playing numerous online games and finding none of them appealing, Michio boots up another RPG and suddenly is transported inside the world of said game. Luckily enough, our Michio isn’t a brain-dead isekai protagonist and realizes he is trapped in this game world, and sitting back doing nothing could get him killed. He arms himself with a powerful “cheat” weapon Durandal and literally hacks away at a group of bandits attacking the village he woke up in. Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World shows blood and limbs flying and that is just the tip of the iceberg as to what is to come. Michio’s journey leads him into the first city and he learns this world isn’t very nice. There is slavery for those accused of crimes or sold for profit, there are brothels and if you commit too many crimes you end up as a bandit class which can earn those who kill you a nice bounty. Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World isn’t Sword Art Online or even In Another World With My Smartphone, this series feels like Redo of Healer with our Michio literally earning money to buy a slave so he can have relations with her…
Controversial or Not…That is to Be Determined
Okay, now Redo of Healer is pretty infamous in the anime community for being a very exploitive anime with many controversial themes ranging from rape, sex, and torture…just to name a few of the elements to be found within. Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World might have some mature content but so far, it seems lesser than Redo of Healer at least, so far. There have only been 4 episodes released as of writing this episode but we’ve seen some themes that could point to a more graphic story later as the series picks up. Already, it seems like future Michio has a literal harem of sex slaves and has had a kid with someone…Michio might not be the best MC to consider as a role model.
Michio… Hero or Not
Okay, let’s discuss Michio Kaga for a moment. We don’t know if we like him yet or if we kind of hate him to be completely transparent. Michio seems to have been an outcast outside this virtual world but now is reveling in the fact he’s able to kill those he considers bad and have sex with women like Roxanne our first female slave because he owns her and tries to justify that it was either her or someone else. We kind of hope Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World puts Michio in some more situations to further his development as he isn’t a likable MC at the moment.
Solid Action Though
Michio has already been in a fair share of battles with some very reminiscent of other isekai series and they have been pretty solid. Despite having some OP abilities, Michio isn’t what we consider a superhuman as he found himself weakened by losing too much MP—which causes him to be hit with a wave of depression—and nearly was caught off guard by a trap in the labyrinth he enters. When Michio fights though, he is pretty capable thanks to his kendo training and that makes for a more realistic set of battles than your usual isekai anime. At only 4 episodes, there is plenty of anime left and we can’t wait to see our various characters enter even more perilous battles for survival.
Final Thoughts
Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World can radically go two different ways. We could see this becoming another eye-raising controversial anime or it could just end up being a decent anime with mature themes. Right now, we aren’t sure what we really feel about this anime but we are going to keep continuing with it nevertheless.
