The year is now 2040 and in this bright future, technology has advanced to amazing levels and society has finally found a form of sustainable living for all. Mizuhara Reito unfortunately won’t experience five years of this amazing future as he’s come down with a disease that isn’t curable just yet. Put into a frozen state, Reito wakes up cured and thinks he can regain what he’s lost. Sadly, a terrible virus called the MK Virus purged 99.9% of the males in the world leaving Reito one of several men alive! In order to keep humanity ongoing, Reito will need to become a means of conception but with his heart still in love with a girl he knew his whole life can he push temptation to the side and stave off women who only want his body? World’s End Harem met with a rocky start. Thanks to the world suffering through a pandemic, this harem series was met with delays left and right. Thankfully, World’s End Harem was finally able to release but not without a new set of problems that made this ecchi harem quickly come under fire from the anime community. Is World’s End Harem worth watching or should you look past the oppai—the oppai you can’t see, that is—and find a better harem anime? Let’s find out in our review of World’s End Harem!

A Clever Idea of a Harem Tale

The bigger saving grace of World’s End Harem is the story and themes. Set in a future that is both advanced but falling to ruin thanks to the MK Virus, World’s End Harem is unlike many harem series. We equally loved the bevy of female leads—even if most fall into some generic design—as we never ran out of girls to contemplate falling for. The story does veer into very predictable moments here and there but the overall narrative does a good job keeping the viewer’s attention.

Censored Oppai!? Say it isn’t so…

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" cdj_product_id="" text="imdb" url="https://ift.tt/fnF1AlS" ]

If you frequent anime community boards and/or our website, you no doubt know one of the biggest issues with World’s End Harem is the extreme levels of censoring that occur in the series. Usually, ecchi isn’t completely uncensored with things like light rays blocking oppai or random forms of mist during shower scenes but World’s End Harem does a form of censorship like a murder scene has been involved. Literally giant black bars block images that are considered lewd and it can get to the point where entire female bodies are almost censored. This level of censorship is just laughable and makes us wish an uncensored version would have been an option…Oh and let’s not forget the censoring of episode 4 during a kissing scene…was that really necessary to censor?!

    Bland Male Lead and Friends

Harem anime rarely have what we’d call exciting male leads. Most series actually have the dimmest male protagonists that are mystified and can be loved by anyone other than their own parents. World’s End Harem’s main man Reito is quite smart, pretty clever, and just downright bland. We understand that Reito is trying to save himself for his beloved Elisa—and we give him the credit he deserves—but the way he reacts and goes about various situations when he’s getting women slammed into his face wanting sex is just downright goofy. The other males have their moments—especially the bullied Shouta and sex-crazed Hino—but they are similar to the male lead as they just lack a reason to care about them. Even by the end of the 11th episode of the series, we guarantee most viewers won’t even remember these character names after a few weeks have gone by.

    Final Thoughts

World’s End Harem should have been one of the more unique harem anime out there having a unique setting, story and theme within. Due to heavy censorship and an overall mediocre male lead, World’s End Harem just falls flat and ends up being an anime you can skip without feeling too much remorse over. We didn’t completely hate World’s End Harem and we think it has some redeeming ideas but overall we can’t say this ecchi series will stick with us for the right reasons.
