One of the games we've been playing this week is called Greak: Memories of Azur. This indie action-adventure was created by a Mexican team, and it has been making everyone fall in love with his wonderful art style. But... is the gameplay any good? Save Your People, Save Your Family

Greak: Memories of Azur is not a lore-heavy game, but it does have an interesting premise. The evil Urlags are at war with the Courines, forcing them to flee if they want to survive. To do so, the Courines need to build an airship, and that's why our hero Greak is helping collect the necessary materials for the construction. However, that's not his only crusade: Greak must find his siblings before escaping.

Divine Trinity

Although Greak is the only playable character when the story begins, it will take you only a few minutes to save his sister Adara. That's when you learn the core mechanics of this Metroidvania. While Greak is your typical hack and slash character, Adara is a magical user that plays in a completely different way, adding Greak: Memories of Azure a lot of gameplay depth. Swapping characters, which you can do by simply pressing a button, not only helps you to solve puzzles but also makes combat against certain foes easier—or harder. Later on, their tanky elder brother Raydel will also join the time to help with his hookshot, and that's when things get more complicated, in a good way. It's worth noting that this is not a cooperative-player adventure, so you can't use several characters simultaneously. That said, having 3 characters with completely unique abilities forces you to play in a more strategic way, which is nice in itself.

Lovely Hand-Drawn Graphics, Better Gameplay

What we enjoyed the most about Greak: Memories of Azur is how responsive and rewarding the controls are. Swapping characters, fighting evil monsters, solving puzzles... everything feels natural and satisfying, mostly because of the animations. In addition to that, the game comes with a gorgeous art style. Line art is simple yet effective, and the use of color is perfect. A few days ago, we talked about Cris Tales, a Colombian RPG with striking graphics. Greak: Memories of Azur is a Mexican indie that also stands out because of its graphics. These are just two recent examples, but we can't deny the Latin American indie scene is getting better and better every day, with titles that are as entertaining and eye-catching as an AAA project. This makes us so happy!
