Born between August 23 and September 22, Virgos are meticulous, hardworking, and caring individuals. Because attention to detail comes naturally to them, Virgos can get picky and judgemental, but they mean well. In their effort to get the best results possible, they might forget that not everyone has the high standards they strive for. Virgos prefer working from their sidelines, not getting all the attention, but some praise for their perfectly honed skills won’t hurt. In fact, they should learn to receive a compliment and let loose once in a while, too. Virgos are mutable earth signs, they thrive in nature, and are usually good with their hands, solving practical, everyday problems, and creating with a purpose in mind. We picked five anime that feature characters and situations where practice makes perfect, overly meticulous characters, tiny details to tinker their brains, and soothing nature-focused anime.

Barakamon tells the story of Handa, a professional calligrapher, who one day snaps and attacks a master calligrapher, after receiving criticism about the originality of his craft. He is then sent to the Goto Islands by his father, to let things cool down. Handa meets the nosy and kind villagers and is soon surrounded by plenty of distractions, led by young Naru and the other children of the village. But, could be that the best setting for Handa to reevaluate his work, and his passion for it? For perfectionist Virgos, Handa would be very relatable. He is following his father's steps as a master calligrapher, works hard, and still, despite all this effort, something is missing. Handa is a steadfast and nervous individual, when his routine is disrupted by the chaotic villagers, he focuses on work to make things right. However, the answer is to reconnect with himself and let himself feel the joy of calligraphy.

    4. Mawaru Penguindrum (Penguindrum)

    [sourceLink asin="B009AVC95Y" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" July 2011 – December 2011 " post_id=""]

The Takakura Family is a mysterious one: the parents vanish, and brothers Kanba and Shouma take care of their sickly younger sister, Himari. One day, they come across a penguin hat that turns their lives upside down. Himari collapses, but is saved by the hat, who promises the brothers to grant her life if they complete missions and recover the “Penguin Drum”. This is the beginning of a surreal tale full of action, drama, twists, and turns. Mawaru Penguindrum is a unique anime series that will grab Virgos' attention with its interesting characterization, symbols, secret clues, creating a universe that does not reveal everything to the viewer at first watch. Penguindrum explores the concept of destiny, taking a philosophical stance, which will provoke thought in analytical Virgos.

    3. Ping Pong the Animation

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="ANSB-6281" text="" url="" ]
    [Information episodes=" 11 " aired=" April 2014 – June 2014 " post_id=""]

Ping Pong the Animation's title is self-explanatory. We follow the lives of high school students and ping pong players Yutaka and Makoto. Yutaka, mostly known as Peco, is a charismatic and bold player who believes in his abilities. Makoto, known as Smiley, ironically because he never smiles, is a genius ping pong player hiding behind his friend's extroversion. However, his skills don't go unnoticed and he is called to overcome his doubts. This is one for the experimental animation lovers, and we think there are many among otaku Virgos. Ping Pong the Animation is created by Masaaki Yuasa, who is known for his idiosyncratic animation style, making it stand out among other anime. Smiley's story would appeal to Virgos who might hold back and not express the full range of their skills, due to timidness, or not wanting to be in the spotlight. This is a heartfelt story that explores the main characters and their antagonists' inner worlds and motivations.

    2. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu (Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju)

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B06WRS9LR7" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" January 2016 – April 2016" post_id=""]

Yotarou, a former yakuza member, wants to become Yakumo's apprentice. Yakumo is one of the most important Rakugo performers, a form of traditional Japanese oral storytelling. Yakumo caves in and takes Yotarou under his wing. This is where we learn about Yakumo's past, his friendship-rivalry with great Rakugo performer Sukeroku, and why he has taken in Sukeroku's daughter, Konatsu. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinju is a beautiful story about the art of Rakugo, and about the main characters who compete in mastering this traditional form of art, perfecting it, and paying respects to their predecessors. Yakumo is hardworking and perfectionistic, so many Virgos would relate. He takes responsibility for Sukeroku's tragic end, even though he is not solely to blame, and keeps his secrets locked in his heart to his old age. Virgos would enjoy a story with complex characters, the value of Rakugo's long tradition, and the production quality of this anime series.

    1. Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya)

    [sourceLink asin="B00PHSCEFO" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [Information episodes=" Movie " aired=" November 2013 " post_id=""]

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is based on a 10th-century Japanese folktale. It tells the story of a villagers' couple who find a tiny girl inside a bamboo sprout, take her in, and raise her as their own daughter. They name her Kaguya, and she grows into a cheerful, energetic girl. However, when her father discovers gold in the forest, he assumes that this is the forest spirits' blessing and desire for Kaguya to have a comfortable, rich life. He builds a palace in the city, where the family moves, and looks for wealthy husbands for Kaguya. Kaguya, though, is a child of nature and struggles to fit in her new environment. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is a beautifully animated movie, nominated for several awards. Virgos would find its soothing pace, the flow of the story which follows the change of seasons, and Kaguya's connection to nature, close to their hearts. This is a movie full of symbolism about happiness. You don't need a palace and fancy suitors to be happy. Kaguya is very much like a Virgo, she thrives where she can sustain herself, she is crafty and doesn't care about being the center of attention. She also has a sense of duty though, and this is why she does her best to fit in the princess lifestyle, even though it does not suit her.

An anime that comes to mind when we think of Virgos is Shikioriri (Flavors of Youth). Composed of three stories, the collections of varied adult events draw the characters in each to reflect on their past, and how it has formed them in the present. The stories highlight the types of love that occur in life: the love for family, the passion that drives one to succeed, and romantic love. Embracing the sensual moments that mold one’s character, Virgo, the fair maiden, desires to love and to be loved, holding the world in her hands. Those who fall under this sign live a life that yearns for the heart to sing.

    2. Yuru Camp (Laid-Back Camp)

    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="January 2018 – March 2018" post_id=""][/en]

Another series that fits the bill is Yuru Camp. Here, we are introduced to Rin Shima, a girl who is content calling the mountains the place to go for a little getaway. Rin is pretty good at camping, claiming the base of Mount Fuji as her “home away from home.” As she is on another regular retreat, Nadeshiko Kagamihara, totally lost, suddenly startles Rin and as a result, the two of them camp together. Nadeshiko has her eyes set on scoring the perfect view of Mount Fuji, but fatigue comes over her, falling asleep near Rin’s campsite. As luck would have it, the two of them share a unique experience, until Nadeshiko’s sister picks her up later that night. From that event, the girls wonder if there will ever be another camping trip that is just as exciting. Virgos are admirers of nature, appreciating the sights, sounds, and smells of the physical world. Mother nature has much to offer and Virgos appreciate its breathtaking beauty. Virgos also look out for their friends and would do anything for them, as long as it is safe and reasonable. Because they value following the rules as well as setting them, you can be sure that a Virgo’s obedience will steer their friends in the right direction. As such, a Virgo’s outdoor adventure can start orderly, but each occasion is never the same.

    3. Ballroom e Youkoso (Welcome to the Ballroom)

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="B07596FY8C" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="" url="" ]
    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="24" item2="Aired" content2="July 2017 – December 2017" post_id=""][/en]

Another anime that encompasses Virgo attributes is Ballroom e Youkoso (Welcome to the Ballroom). Ballroom e Youkoso follows the journey of Tatara Fujita, a constant victim of bullying. One day, a professional dancer named Kaname Sengoku comes to his rescue, giving him refuge at his dance studio. There, he meets one of his classmates, Shizuku Hanaoka, whom he admires secretly. Aiming to become a professional dancer, Shizuku sees Tatara’s star potential and decides to take him under her wing. From this moment, Tatara is exposed to new friendships. He’s been given the chance to self-improve, raising his confidence and taking a stand against the bullies. As Tatara takes these steps to success, he gains support and appreciation from the dance community. Virgos would find Ballroom e Youkoso appealing because, just like Tatara, folks under this sign work exceptionally hard to achieve the highest praise. Additionally, Virgos are selfless, supporting, and loyal. Furthermore, when your spirit is crushed or you feel a sense of disappointment, you can always count on a Virgo to uplift you, driving you towards your greatest potential.
