• Kyoto Animation announced on April 26th via a Tweet and YouTube video that a 2-part movie version of "Free!" will be released under the title "Free! The Final Stroke".

• The first half of the movie is scheduled for September 17th, 2021 and the second part will release April 22, 2022.
• The announcement comes as part of an 8th anniversary celebration of the Free! anime, though it was planned for a 2020 release alongside the 2020 Olympics which were postponed along with the movie release.
• The movie will be directed by Eisaku Kawanami, who directed the 3rd season of the series and "Free! Timless Medley". Nobunaga Shimazaki will reprise his role as Haruka Nanase as well.
