Top 5 Most Creative Artists in Anime [Updated]

    [ad_top1 class=""]

One of the most unique elements of anime is its beauty and depth of art that is incorporated in every scene. For us at Honey’s Anime, watching an anime always makes us wonder about the hard work that is necessary to have such intricate details and beauty in every anime that we watch. But what’s also interesting is when mangakas incorporate artists into their own works, perhaps to put a piece of themselves in their work or to just show us how hard it is to put in such depth and detail that adds to the beauty of anime. We have Top 5 creative artists in anime who are dedicated to their craft of being an artist despite how hard it can be. They choose to remember the happiness they derive from their art rather than the hard work it puts them through. We hope that you enjoy this list!

    5. Reedus Jonah from Fairy Tail

What if you could bring anything you draw to life? Sounds exciting, right? Fairy Tail’s very own artist Reedus’ magic is based on his art. Watching Reedus draw something super fast but very accurately in battle is interesting to watch because of the inane concentration and skill that it would require to draw something and bring it to life immediately to fight off your opponent!

    4. Rill Boismortier from Black Clover

Next up, we have another character who uses his art as his form of magic, Rill from Black Clover! Rill is so into his art that he doesn’t mind shirking his other duties to dedicate all his time to it. Every artist needs his healthy dose of inspiration and for Rill, it is in the form of powerful magic. When he first got his grimoire, he spent so many days working on powerful spells with his brush. Sounds like the most dedicated artist, right?

    3. Arte from Arte

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="BSZD-8251" text="" url="" ]

In third place, we have Arte from the titular anime, Arte. Arte’s journey has been hard. Born in a noble family and forced to help her family the traditional way by marrying a noble and settling down, Arte is brave enough to decide that she does not want that life. Why? Because she loves art. She gives up her noble life to become the apprentice of Leo and make her own living for herself. Needless to say, this takes exceptional courage and Arte’s art speaks for herself. In a world where female artists are not accepted, to continue to choose one’s art above everything else, even one’s upbringing, and choosing to pursue it at all costs is very inspiring for us at Honey’s Anime. Arte’s artistic expression comes heavily from her master, Leo. Her style of approaching art is not primarily through her imagination but through the application of her studies and techniques that she learns from Leo.

    2. Midori Asakusa from Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu da! (Keep Your Hands off Eizouken!)

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="imdb" url="https://ift.tt/38wNPoy" ]

Here’s one artist who expresses herself voraciously through her imagination, describing and drawing it with incredible detail. This list would definitely be incomplete without Midoriya Asakusa, the very girl who said, “Anime is all about the setting.” And she’s right! Midori Asakusa loves her settings and her sketchbook is a testament to her talent and passion she has for drawing and even making anime. With her out-of-control imagination that constantly fuels her love for art, Midori is a very immersive artist. One can constantly find her in her own world, which she drew and created herself. Midori loves to draw everything that her mind comes up with, including a fantasy world that she wants to create a film on. However, Midori often becomes incredibly consumed by her art.

    1. Kakushi Gotou from Kakushigoto

    [sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" bookwalker_id="" cdj_product_id="" text="imdb" url="https://ift.tt/3bI0JlL" ]

One character who does not get consumed by his art yet still retains his artistic self in an incredibly successful way is Kakushi Gotou from Kakushigoto. Dedicating one’s life to art is trying enough but to dedicate one’s life to art but also taking care of your own daughter along the way can be very hard. But Kakushi shows us that while it is hard, it is exceptionally rewarding. The most important thing that made us choose Kakushi for this place is the way he handles his life. He does not let himself get consumed by his art yet he fosters his artistic expression in a very healthy way. Kakushi Gotou’s artistic expression comes not only in the form of his successful manga but also from the creative ways he comes up with to hide his secret of being a mangaka from his daughter. From exercising early every morning to shine at a sports festival while also hiding his secret of being a mangaka, Kakushi is one hell of a father and an artist at the same time. As an exceptional and popular mangaka, he is required to meet deadlines at the earliest to maintain his popularity. But as a father, he is required to be there for his daughter because he’s all she got. To take care of her properly with much love and care while also being a hardworking mangaka who has made it to the top is what most of us at Honey’s Anime would love to do with our goals someday!

    Final Thoughts

Anime itself is an art but to watch characters in anime who pursue art can be exciting and inspiring. An important honorable mention that we wanted to include was the design team from Tenchi Souzou Design-bu or Heaven’s Design Team. We at Honey’s Anime simply could not agree on a favorite because every character in the design team has their unique charm that makes them excel at their art! Which was your favorite inclusion in this top 5? Do you think we left something out? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

    Narsus (Arslan Senki)

Anime is created by teams of talented and creative artists of various styles and mindsets. So, would it not make sense that they’d want to see themselves reflected in their work? These characters can surprise us with their skills and show that sometimes these talents can come from the most unexpected places. This is a list of ten characters who have their own… unique artistic talents and just so happen to all be from great shows too!

    10. Bossun [Sket Dance]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Yuusuke Fujisaki Sket Dance' anime='Sket Dance dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 77 " aired=" April 2011 - September 2012 "]

Yusuke Fujisaki, more commonly known simply as Bossun is the leader of the Sket Dance, a school club specifically designed as a campus support group. If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the Sket Dan. Or something like that. Bossun is enthusiastic, optimistic and always willing to give a helping hand. He’s incredibly intelligent, capable of calculating the trajectory of a slingshot in mere seconds. It’s just that he doesn’t show it. So, when Bossun is able to produce incredible works of art effortlessly, it can come as a bit of a surprise. Sure, you’ll find many characters out there that can whip up a top notch painting when asked. But can they paint a painting, save a cat, fight off the student council and help someone get over their fear of boiled eggs all at the same time? I think not.

    9. Nozaki Umetaro [Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='gekkan shoujo nozaki kun nozaki umetarou' anime='Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" July 2014 - September 2014 "]

Unlike Bossun, it’s actually Nozaki’s job to be an incredible artist. As the author of the Shoujo Manga, “Let’s Fall in Love”, Nozaki needs to constantly come up with new situations for his characters to be in, all with the help of an eccentric cast of friends. However, this ends in some ridiculous antics that surround the rather stoic character that is Nozaki, working itself into an exemplary boiling pot of comedy. Nozaki is a talented mangaka, but everything he draws ends up being silly in its own special way. Sure, there’s plenty of other mangaka within anime, but none with such a… creative mind as Nozaki has.

    8. Moritaka Mashiro [Bakuman.]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Moritaka Mashiro bakuman' anime='bakuman dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" October 2010 - April 2011 "]

Moritaka Mashiro is another mangaka, but one that’s a bit closer to reality than the wonderful character that is Nozaki. Mashiro is one half of the mangaka duo that is Ashirogi Muto in one of my favourite series, Bakuman. Being the passive aggressive series by Death Note authors, Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the series constantly takes shots at its own publishers, Weekly Shounen Jump. So what comes with this, is Obata’s incredible artwork as varied and detailed as it is, evolving to represent Mashiro’s own talents as he works on new manga. Mashiro’s style is shown to be so diverse, that it rockets past the competition in so many ways. Now if only the manga he wrote existed in real life!

    7. Miyabi Omichi [GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Miyabi Oomichi GA' anime='GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" July 2009 - September 2009 "]

Taking a step back from the professional world for a moment here, GA Art Design Class features a whole cast of artistic and creative characters. Literally. The entire cast are all artists in training as members of the school’s art class. However, one character in particular stands out in this skit comedy as the character that steps forward to teach both the rest of the class and the viewer different art techniques beyond just pen and paper. Delving into 3D, photography and even digital art, Omichi is always ready with a new handy technique. If you want to learn how to become an artist, Miyabi Omichi is the best teacher you could possibly ask for.

    6. Toshino Kyoko [Yuru Yuri]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Toshino Kyoko Yuru Yuri' anime='Yuru Yuri San☆Hai! dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" July 2011 - September 2011 "]

Unlike everyone else on this list, Toshino Kyoko is an idiot. Flamboyant, selfish and loud. Those are four words that describe Toshino Kyoko with absolute accuracy. As one of the lead characters of the popular comedy series Yuru Yuri, she’s always getting into antics within The Amusement Club. One such antic is her unbelievable talent to quickly produce incredible works that seem strangely out of line with her usual temperament. Alternatively, it’s arguable that Chinatsu is a far more creative artist, but I dare not expose you, the reader, to such sights.

    5. Seishuu Handa [Barakamon]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Barakamon Seishuu Handa' anime='Barakamon dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" July 2014 - September 2014 "]

But sometimes art is not so simple. I myself am a hopeless artist whose barrier stands at stick figures, although thankfully Seishuu Handa’s prospects are a little more hopeful. As a calligrapher (Handa, not me), he travels to the remote Goto Islands to be able to get away from his by-the-book calligraphy and try to find something more personal. Through the beauty of the island and the wonderful personalities of the people that inhabit it, Handa grows from a stubborn, grumpy guy to someone who can really appreciate the smaller things in life and it translates into his work magnificently. It’s one thing to be good at calligraphy, but it’s another to put so much heart and soul into it, which puts Handa confidently on this list.

    4. Ema Yasuhara [Shirobako]

    [imageCharacterWithAnime character='shirobako ema' anime='Shirobako dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" October 2014 - March 2015 "]

Sometimes art can move. Although you’re probably already aware of this, as an anime fan. Shirobako was one of the best shows of the past year that invited us to dive into the anime industry and experience the reality of it all. Ema Yasuhara is an animator at Musashino Animation, working to improve her skills and gain confidence in her own work. Over the course of the show, she develops new skills thanks to the support of her co-workers and grows as a person within the anime industry. It’s rare to see animators within anime itself and the progress Ema goes through to keep up with her colleagues is inspiring, to say the least.

    3. Eriri Sawamura [Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Eriri Spencer Sawamura Saekano' anime='Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" January 2015 - March 2015 "]

The cast of Saekano are a whole bundle of talents. There’s a talented musician, a talented writer and as the title suggests, a talented artist. Seen as a refined artist and the top of her art class, Eriri is secretly a massive otaku. Drawing manga under the name “Eri Kashiwagi”, Tomoya Aki recruits her to do the artwork on the new visual novel he’s making. Although that’s easier said than done, after a series of conflicts and a whole other circle attempting to recruit her to work with them complicate things. It’s not just that Eriri is a brilliant artist, it’s that she’s constantly sought after too. And someone like that has got to take up a place on our list!

    2. Mio Naganohara [Nichijou]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Mio Naganohara nichijyou' anime='nichijou dvd']
    [Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" April 2011 - September 2011 "]

Much like Eriri, Mio is also incredibly secretive when it comes to her manga. Although, she may have a slightly better reason. Within the world of Nichijou, anything is prone to going off the rails at any given moment and the characters are no exception. When Mio’s homoerotic drawings of her crush are discovered, she will stop at nothing to hide them. Assaulting a police officer, her friends, running at the speed of light, nothing will stop Mio from keeping her secret hidden from the world. Admittedly, however, the drawings are actually very good.

    1. Kyoma Kuzuryu [Mikagura School Suite]

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Mikagura School Suite Kyouma Kuzuryuu' anime='dvd Mikagura School Suite']
    [Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" April 2015 - June 2015 "]

Imagine Hogwarts. Now forget Hogwarts and imagine a high school filled with superpowers based on what club you happen to be a part of. Whether it’s monstrous plants, powerful musical instruments or a calligraphy brush that fires ink, Mikagura Academy is a weird place. Kyoma, as the president of the art club and has the power to use his paint as a weapon, with each colour having a different ability. Whilst we don’t get many chances to see his actual art within the show, the few examples we have show that he has a somewhat impressionist style, not being interested in showing what someone looks like and rather, what they represent. If that’s not creativity, what is?

So there we have it! Ten incredibly talented artists trapped within the world of anime. Thankfully they’re all from some brilliant shows that you’ll have the time of your life watching. And who knows? Maybe you’ll be inspired to start drawing too! Even I’ve been inspired by some of these characters to draw better. They’re still stickmen, but I can guarantee you, I draw some of the best stickmen out there.
