5 Anime Bakers That We'd Love to Bake Christmas Cookies With
Christmas is seen as a romantic holiday in Japan, so cookie baking isn’t as ubiquitous as it is here. Still, we’d love to share a kitchen with any of these five anime bakers on a cold winter’s day, reminiscing about holidays past and pulling trays of sweet treats out of the oven. Let’s take a closer look at five of our favorite bakers in anime!
5. Nene Yashiro from Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun)
Nene is just your average teenage girl – obsessed with boys, fascinated by ghost stories, and embarrassed by her thick ankles – but she’s secretly friends with the leader of Kamome Academy’s Seven Mysteries, Hanako-kun of the toilet. Even though this ghostly boy is mischievous, flippant, and has a mysterious past that he keeps tightly under wraps, he cares deeply for Nene. So, when he’s having a bad day, Nene works with her friend Kou to make Hanako’s favorite dessert, donuts! Donuts can be difficult to make, since they involve deep frying and yeasted dough, so we’re willing to bet that Nene can make just about any Christmas dessert with no problem!
4. Moe “Suzu” Suzuya from Koisuru Asteroid (Asteroid in Love)
Because Suzu’s family runs a bakery, she’s grown up around cookies and pastries her entire life. She’s never been formally trained, but she probably has half of a degree in culinary science just from observation. Suzu also adores cute girls and can’t help but ship all of her friends together (especially the starry-eyed couple Mira and Ao), so we’d be excited to share gossip with her while baking. As long as we can borrow one of the adorable uniforms from the bakery, we’ll be happy!

3. Rinko Yamato from Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!)
Big, bulky Takeo has a crush on the kind and gentle Rinko, but can’t bring himself to confess to her because he thinks he’s too ugly for a dainty girl like her. Little does he know that she actually has a crush on him, too! True to her sweet personality, Rinko is extraordinarily talented at making cutesy cakes and plated desserts. We’d love to try making traditional Japanese daifuku with her, or maybe sugar cookies with Takeo’s face on them. Her creations require quite a bit of technical skill, so hopefully we can keep up...
2. Maria Campbell from Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta... (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!)
Maria is one of the only commoners at the Magic Academy and possesses rare light magic, which led to bullying and ostracization when she was younger. She used to bake cookies all the time, but after losing her confidence, she put her cookie cutters and other supplies away forever. It takes some serious reassurance and friendship from Katarina to break Maria out of her shell again, and when the group finally gets to try her desserts, they all agree that they’re fantastic! Her specialty is tea cookies, but that would easily translate to gingerbread and sugar cut-outs. Maybe she can gather the whole Fortune Lover gang for a baking day and send everyone away with tins of Christmas sweets!
1. Ciel Kirahoshi/Cure Parfait from Kirakira☆Precure A La Mode
Most of the other bakers on this list have a high degree of skill when it comes to desserts, but Ciel is on a whole other level – she studied for years in France to become a world-renowned pâtissière, which is doubly impressive considering that she’s a tiny fairy who didn’t learn how to transform into a human until after she completed her apprenticeship. Her specialty dish is a Pegasus parfait, but she and the rest of the Precure girls created a special Christmas dessert called a “Polar Bear Buche de Noel” that we’d love to make with her! Luckily, the anime’s website helpfully provides recipes for every dessert the girls come up with, so be sure to check it out if you’re a Precure fan!
Final Thoughts
We’d also like to bake Christmas cookies with Momo Akanegakubo or Megumi Tadokoro from Shokugeki no Souma, Kazuma Azuma from Yakitate Japan, and Yuna from Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear. But which anime bakers would you invite to your holiday baking party (socially distanced, of course)? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!
