The Ancient Magus’ Bride holds a very special place in our hearts. It gives a whole new meaning towards love, as well as the connection between humans and other species. More so, it gave us a wad of dragons, which is my personal favorite. That said, the world of Ancient Magus’ Bride is so well crafted that countless possible storylines are existing alongside the series. More so, each of those storylines is possibly as interesting and intricate as the original series. Now, let’s talk about one such spin-offs.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files follows the titular detective, Jack Flash, and her brother, Larry. Both of them are changelings, which means being interchanged at birth. Jack is a fae born and left in the human world, while Larry is a human born and raised in the faerie realm. Being soaked with magical energy, Larry slowly gained the ability to shapeshift into a wolf. Together, they form the Jack Flash Detective agency wherein they solve one case concerning fae and humans after the other.

1. Fae Stuff and the Like

What’s fascinating about The Ancient Magus’ Bride is how beautifully it depicts and incorporates fae magic into the story. The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files does the same thing. Given that Larry can turn into a wolf at will, they utilize that in partnership with Jack’s magic to thinker and find clues to save their cases. Yes, that means seeing beautifully drawn magic like shapeshifting, familiars made of rats’ whiskers and taxi tires, and even some memory wiping spell.

2. Our Favorite, Lindel, is Involved

As I’ve said before, I LOVE dragons. I mean, what’s not to love? The majesty of their magic? Their glorified looks and appearance? Perhaps, the lush history and lore surrounding them? Yes, nothing. They’re absolutely amazing, and more so, their keeper, Lindel. In The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files, Lindel finds himself in a predicament involving the New World, a place he just can’t waddle in. One of the newly found dragon eggs has been stolen, and it’s probably in the New World. Lindel seeks the help of our tricky agent to solve the case.

Why You Should Skip The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files

1. Ending with a Stupid Cliffhanger

Everybody hates cliffhangers. Even though we look like adorable angels, we hate them too. This series ended with one of the worst cliffhangers ever. We’ve just seen the dragon egg camouflaged as a necklace, then wham. It ended. That’s like throwing a cola just after opening it. It ruined the momentum and build. If you absolutely hate that kind of feeling, we advise reading this once the second volume is released. But if you don’t really mind being cliffhang-ed, then have your serving of fae.

Final Thoughts

Although The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files is a spin-off, we don’t want to compare it to The Ancient Magus’ Bride. For us, they are both cool stories that just happen to exist in the same world at the same time. We’re a cool with that. The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files holds its own great story. It’s just that it would’ve been better if it didn’t in an off-ly put cliffhanger.
