- Oh Japan, you never cease to amaze us with your plentiful amount of entertainment. For those who aren't too familiar with magazines in Japan, CoroCoro Comics (コロコロコミック in Japanese) is one of the longest running manga magazines in the country, launching its first issue on this day May 15th, 1977. Unlike most magazines that tend to market their attention towards Shonen, CoroCoro focused their brand on elementary-school boys. Many iconic titles have found enourmous success from CoroCoro Comics such as the beloved Doraemon and the iconic Pokemon series. Both of these have gone on to become cultural trademarks of Japan and continue to thrive to this day.
- The name CoroCoro is derived from the Japanese phenomime ころころ which means rolling, and usually that represents items that children are especially attracted to such as balls, or something spherical.
- Many legendary manga have seen success as mentioned before, with Fujiko Fujio leading the way with a plethora of works such as Ninja Hattori-kun, Karvy, Splatoon, Youkai-Watch, and Dual Masters. In the very beginning of CoroCoro's journey, a lot of works by Fujiko Fujio were the main attraction but as time passed more and more creators joined the fray, and more splendid works were published! Nowadays you'll also find some game related content in the magazine too, which just goes to show you that CoroCoro Comics will continue to roll in the right direction!
