News of our favorite shows getting delayed sucks, we mean it really, really sucks. But let’s be real here—delays are common and delays don’t mean our favorite shows will indefinitely be shelved. This sort of thing is just a tiny blip in our total lifespan on this beautiful blue planet. A machine needs an oil change once in a while, if you know what we mean. What’s not a blip in our total lifespan, though? Our infinite anime backlog! It never-freaking-ends… But where to begin? There are many ways to go about this topic but we ultimately decided to pick a category that—while it gets featured a lot in Honey’s Anime—rarely gets emphasized: Cute Girls Doing Cute Things. CGDCT anime is popular because watching cute girls going about their daily routine, or keeping very odd hobbies is amusing with their feminine charm. So while we wait for our favorite shows to come back, let’s check out 5 slice of life shows in our 5 Cute Girls Doing Cute Things Anime to Warm Your Heart!

For fresh high school graduate Suzukaze Aoba, landing a job as a graphics artist at video game developer Eagle Jump—who made her favorite games of all time—is a dream come true. As a rookie, Aoba has a lot to learn and with the help of her coworkers and her mentor and Eagle Jump’s lead game designer Yagami Kou, Aoba slowly learns the ins and outs of the company and earns the friendships of everyone involved in game development. A video game is often a reflection of the people who made it (you can differentiate a game made by a company solely for profit and a game made by people who want to make a good game) and New Game! lets you see what kind of game an all-female dev team can make. Each episode doesn’t go into exact details on how game development works, but it does show you how their upcoming video game is being made and how each character’s personality affects the overall presentation. And like any slice of life anime, New Game! is primarily about the characters: Aoba, the rookie artist; Hifumi, the introverted but experienced artist; Yun from the design team who wears frilly clothing; Hajime, the otaku from the animation team; Rin, the art director who also provides emotional support to the team; and lastly, Kou, the lead game designer and mentor to Aoba. New Game! is just your typical slice of life anime, but with a dose of video game development!

    4. Hakumei to Mikochi (Hakumei and Mikochi)

    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="January 2018 - March 2018" post_id=""][/en]

In the quiet underbrush of a forest untouched by humans, lies a small community of little people and talking animals going about their day. Our little fairy tale tells the story of Hakumei and Mikochi and their many adventures in the forest floor and the little communities they visit every day. The world of Hakumei to Mikochi is more than just “cute girls doing cute things”—it's a world teeming with life just under the trees and within the thick bushes. Hakumei to Mikochi, like any slice of life anime, focuses on the daily lives of the two main characters, Hakumei and Mikochi, as they visit towns to work, buy supplies in the marketplace, have conversations with animals and insects, forage across the forest for herbs and spices, then go home to their adorably cute treehouse and whip up some delicious meals. Hakumei is a former vagabond and is quite good at construction work and manual labor, whereas Mikochi is good at cooking and is extremely popular among the townsfolk for her kindheartedness, beauty, and her expertise at cooking.

    3. Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid)

    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="13" item2="Aired" content2="January 2017 - April 2017" post_id=""][/en]

Kobayashi is your average overworked office lady and one day, she is left confused as to why there’s a huge dragon at her doorstep. It turns out, Kobayashi, in her drunken stupor, rescued the dragon Tooru from injury the previous night and invited the ailing dragon to stay at her place as her personal maid. Tooru, the dragon who can shapeshift into a human, is happily living with Kobayashi and there is not a single day that Tooru doesn’t give Kobayashi tons of unwarranted attention. Maid Dragon isn’t your typical family-oriented anime because all of the main characters, including the lead human character Kobayashi, are women. Still, Maid Dragon offers a different take on “cute girls doing cute things” slice of life anime with a focus on family. Kobayashi’s life as a single woman is something she doesn’t mind, but her life gradually changes once she starts living with dragons Tooru and Kanna. Tooru is like the obsessive girlfriend, Kobayashi is the straight man delivering the punch line and Kanna is like Kobayashi’s daughter. For most of the series, the episodes are a combination of slice of life, magical shenanigans, romance, and a bit of yuri.

    2. Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? (Is the Order a Rabbit?)

Hoto Cocoa moves in with the Kafuu family in a small quaint town in order to attend school. The Kafuu family owns a small coffee shop where Cocoa works part-time and befriends the store owner’s granddaughter Kafuu Chino. The two girls immediately become friends and with the help of another part-timer, Riza, the three work at the Rabbit House Cafe after school, brewing the best coffee this small town has to offer. Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? is the pinnacle of cuteness from its picturesque locales reminiscent of old Venice, Italy, characters with every adorable quirk you can think of, and a story of girls going about their day at part-time work, and in school. Everything oozes cuteness; from Chino’s introvertedness and Cocoa’s beaming enthusiasm to the warm and vibrant color palette of the presentation and a soundtrack that will warm your heart. When it comes to a pure “cute girls doing cute things” experience, Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? is flawless.

    1. Girls & Panzer

    [en][information_general item1 = "Episodes" content1="12" item2="Aired" content2="October 2012 - March 2013" post_id=""][/en]

Nishizumi Miho is your typical high school girl with nothing that makes her stand out. Miho enrolls in Ooarai Girls High School, meets new friends, and everything seems perfectly normal. But unfortunately for her, the student council has recognized her surname and she is forced to join the Tankery Club, a club focusing on commanding battle tanks and competing in tournaments against other schools. It turns out, Miho is from a family renowned for their mastery of commanding tanks and Ooarai Girls High School needs a good tank commander in order to compete. But Miho doesn’t want to join the Tankery Club because she just wants to be a normal high school girl! Cute girls have occupied every anime genre one can think of—if such a thing exists, cute girls will be there, and no matter how absurd the thing is, the girls will make it the cutest thing ever. Girls & Panzer is absurd with its premise of high school girls participating in a club focusing on riding tanks and girls joining in war games using live ammunition against neighboring schools as a school activity, but the anime manages to make the act of blowing up tanks the cutest thing ever conceived by man. There are inaccuracies, of course, like, the tanks in Girls & Panzer are unrealistically nimble and heavily armored, but, come on, it’s already absurd a tankery club is a thing in this anime… Don’t fret over the details!
