Many otaku in the anime community know that as they get older and eventually have a family of their own, an important time comes around. The need to teach your children about the world of anime! All jokes aside, it’s not uncommon to have families join together and watch various series like Amaama to Inazuma. Yet, can you think of many anime focused on families? That’s the sad reality folks, there truly aren’t enough family-orientated anime series in the sea of anime! That’s why we truly believe here at Honey’s Anime that more anime need to be created for families to enjoy together and here’s why!

    Family Bonding

Anime series like Kill la Kill, Parasyte and Death Note are fun/mature for those who love wild programs but are they good for a family to enjoy? Unfortunately, the reality is ‘no’ and that can hinder a family’s enjoyment of anime. If there were more series like Fruits Basket or Barakamon, more parents could introduce the beauty of anime at an earlier—less mature—age. Luckily, there are still plenty of kid-themed shows like Digimon and Pokémon but that won’t always be enough to get the family hooked on the wonder that is anime.

    Repetitive Anime Won’t Work Forever

One common argument we hear from anime fans trying to get others—or their families in this case—into the world of anime viewing is to watch shonen series like Bleach, Naruto and/or One Piece. That might work for a while but what if your kids or even your significant other wants a different genre to enjoy that isn’t hundreds of episodes long? That’s the sad truth when it comes to recommending family anime. Without a larger collection of shows focused on family matters/concepts, then you’ll find some of your family might tire from watching the same ole theme over and over again.

    Oh God, The Ecchi!

Often, many of us here at Honey’s Anime are asked what shows they can show to their kids without worrying about overly ecchi themes like Shokugeki no Soma or Fairy Tail which appeal to younger audiences unaware of the ecchi factor. The beauty of Amaama to Inazuma—or shows like it—is they avoid showing too much skin, don’t have too many mature concepts and can be relatable to all ages. Plus, you won’t need to avert your children’s eyes when a character makes an amazing food dish that causes a girl’s clothes to explode off her body. Family-geared anime won’t make you worry that you need to censor Netflix’s anime list.

    What About Grandpa and Grandma?!

This might sound corny but we’re noticing some older folks out there have noticed the appeal of anime and are enjoying some classic series like Cowboy Bebop or anime films like Steamboy, Spirited Away, and Wolf Children. Now, as cool as that might be, most grandparents won’t be able to dig series akin to Kakegurui or One Punch Man. Family time needs anime that can make a family gather together and, without that, we won’t be able to create the ultimate world. A world where all ages can enjoy anime, young or old!

    Final Thoughts

As amazing as anime is, there are still a lot of people who don’t understand the appeal of it. As much as that pains us, we understand that watching schoolgirls transform into sailor warriors or seeing a guy wield a gigantic frying pan or sword isn’t going to captivate all. Anime can be polarizing for some but family-themed anime are the truly perfect way to get all ages into the wonderful world of Japanese animation! Do you agree with us or do you feel otherwise?
